Reptile Surveys

Artificial refugia, including steel 'tins' (corrugated steel sheets approximately 50cm x 50cm) and sheets of bitumen felt (approximately 100cm x 50cm), will be deployed at the site and allowed to 'bed-in' for a minimum of two weeks. Steel tins are generally considered to provide more suitable habitat for certain species, particularly snakes, due to their superior thermal properties.

The number of refugia deployed will vary depending on the site size and the extent of suitable habitat. Seven visits will be conducted to monitor the refugia for the presence of reptiles.

If reptiles are found, a population size estimate will be determined. This estimate will be categorized as low, moderate, high, or exceptional, with specific thresholds varying depending on the reptile species.
